Not My Will, But Thine

"Think it not hard if you get not your will, nor your delights in this life; God will have you to rejoice in nothing but himself."

-Samuel Rutherford

In this wicked world of self-centeredness

We only think of self

Figuratively speaking

We put God “on the shelf”

We do not dwell on His glory

But things to please the flesh

We think not of the judgement

When God’s reapers come to thresh

Think it not so hard

To live a life of toil

Even if you never get

Any of earth’s spoil

God’s glory is your end

That for which you’re made

Do not let the wicked

Make your mind be swayed

Dwell on God and Him alone

Leave alone the rest

If you do God’s bidding

He will see you blessed

Even if your blessing

Is not on this earth

You will surely have it

In your new birth

Let us rejoice in God

Our songs to Him raise

Our great God of glory

To him alone is Praise
